We are continuing our mixtape series with a female & non-binary led tape featuring music dear to each artists heart. Both sides focus on the weird and wonderful world of post-punk and it’s outer reaches with artwork designed by Ana herself.
On the A side we have Ana da Silva, the founding member, co- vocalist and lead guitarist of legendary post-punk band The Raincoats. As part of The Raincoats, she has been responsible for creating some of the most influential music in the post-punk canon, counting the likes of Kurt Cobain and Kim Gordon amongst her fans. The Raincoats’ sound stood out from the majority of their contemporaries, incorporating unconventional polyrhythmic percussion and non Western instrumentation into a punk framework. Boasting an all female tracklist, her 45 minutes weave obscuro post-punk, grunge fuelled piano chops and potent bass riffs. Dive into this selection from a true pioneer of the scene.
Heading up the flip we have DJ Mooncup who has established themselves as a key fixture in the Bristol underground. Gaining their stripes at London’s Proteus and Free Movements parties, Mooncup’s sound is tense, brooding and hypnotic, tying together different genres from all reaches of punk, industrial, noise and all else in between. Their contribution for the B side keeps true to themselves leading us in a slightly freakier direction — obscure percussions, blissed out vocal layers and droning guitars leave us cloudy, heady and informed.
All profits will be donated to a charity selected by Ana, Breast Cancer Now.
